The Population Research Centre at Gokhale Institute, Pune, observed the World Population Day event on July 24, 2026, themed “Realizing the hopes and Aspirations of young people – today and for the future” in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Swach Pune Seva Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit, Pune for recognizing the invaluable contribution of sanitation workers in promoting public health and maintaining urban cleanliness.
The programme was conducted at four sanitation worker centres (Kothis)—Hirvai Kothi, Homi Bhabha Kothi, Janawadi Kothi, and Ghole Road Kothi. As part of the outreach initiative, 100 T-shirts specially designed with theme of World Population Day 2026 and carrying messages on population awareness and key health schemes of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India along with PRC logo, were distributed to sanitation workers of Pune. The programme also included an awareness talk focusing on population issues, public health, and important government initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of communities.
